Twisting concepts into form

I explored the third dimension while I was able, and discovered an intense delight in twisting and torturing clay to my bidding! Like any powerful habit, it started with a little mould shaping for concrete here, a spot of timber sculpting there, and before I knew it, I had a full blown sculpting addiction!

The heady aroma and the soothing tactility of  clay stimulated a spontaneity I didn’t realise lay within me, and I discovered the joy of exploring with my fingertips. No plans, no formal structure - just the intoxication of allowing the clay to lead me in an exploration of form.

While ceramics became a particularly special friend, and I also discovered that casting in pewter resulted in gorgeous shimmery forms. I spent many hours prowling through op shops and eBay scavenging for tired pewter souvenirs and abandoned tankard awards to cater to my overwhelming bower bird-like obsession with shiny objects.
