A salute to the swiping game. I once ventured near an online dating app, and was sent running for the hills by a particularly striking profile. Apparently it was important that her time was not wasted and only ‘hot’ people contact her, as she too, was extremely hot... She posted the reviews to prove it!
This gruesome display of toxicity made me wonder how many others were out there… did any actually sip from this poisoned chalice?
Was I wrong to judge her so quickly?
Perhaps she was simply being vulnerable, crippled by her ‘hotness’. Perhaps she had been led astray, had her time wasted by people that didn’t understand how tiresome and exhausting it was being gorgeous. Perhaps her soul destroying sexiness was a handicap in the online dating world, and she needed to filter the riffraff from the genuine efficiently. Time is money after all. Too many wasted dates, umbrella festooned cocktails imbibed with 'unhot' tyre kickers, affogatos sipped with dullards. Can’t we see that beauty is a curse?
Ok - perhaps I am a little harsh. But to be fair, I felt compelled to dive into my trusty Vortex and sculpt this beasty, so I should reach out and thank her for being my inadvertent muse! Alas, I am not hot enough…
