As the years flit by and my hormones abandon me, I’ve had a chance to reflect on the slow, strange unfurling a woman experiences over the years. From the innocent androgyny of childhood, the shy awkwardness of puberty, the blossoming of adulthood, the nurturing of motherhood through to the unravelling freedom of menopause. In retrospect, it’s an extraordinary series of experiences, and nothing can prepare you.
You may hear about it from others or be forewarned books or documentaries, but when the reality encompasses you, it comes as a shock, and suddenly the inadequacy of linguistics hits you. No words can express the confusion and turmoil. I doubt my little creation is adequate either, but perhaps the complexity of colours and twisting forms illustrate the complexity of womanhood.
